HAGA. Chenille – softness returning to interiors

The word chenille comes from French and means “caterpillar” – it refers to the characteristic construction of the yarn, in which short fibers are set around a core, creating a velvety soft material structure. This production method is what makes the fabric fluffy and pleasant to the touch, with a surface that has a noticeable volume. Chenille has been present in upholstery for years; today, however, it returns to a new role as a response to the growing need for comfort in modern residential interiors.

Cozymaxxing – conscious comfort building

Contemporary residential interiors are based on simple forms, calm color palettes, and restrained decoration. In such spaces, it is not the shape of the furniture that defines whether an interior feels warm and welcoming — it is the material. Soft, textured fabrics therefore become a key tool for creating coziness, expressed through touch and the visual softness of surfaces. Layering textiles replace Instagram-style sterility with the real comfort of everyday living.

Texture at furniture scale

HAGA is a chenille with a dense, substantial structure, where the yarns are used in both the warp and the weft. The result is a thick, stable fabric with a subtle melange. From a distance, the surface reads as calm, with a gentle heathered effect; up close, it reveals a deeper texture that slightly resembles a checked weave. It’s a fabric that performs beautifully on large, upholstered surfaces, adding volume and a cozy feel to furniture.

Chenille vs. bouclé and velvet

Compared to other popular upholstery fabrics:

  • chenille, such as HAGA, sits between the two — offering softness and texture without a strong decorative statement. This makes it well suited to residential projects with a neutral, timeless, character.
  • boucle is more decorative and visually expressive, but less versatile in everyday interiors,
  • welur creates an effect of smooth elegance and sheen, yet is often perceived as more formal.

Softness alongside velvets and suede

HAGA offers designers great freedom in material pairings:

  • when combined with fabrics of similar density and subtle sheen, such as Havana or Maloy, it creates cohesive, soft compositions,
  • in contrasting combinations with matte velvet like Hogan, it highlights differences in texture,
  • paired with shading velvets such as Bluvel, it builds a more nuanced play of light,
  • together with faux leathers like Matador or Taurus, it clearly defines the boundary between soft upholstery and a stronger material accent.

Performance features

HAGA has been designed for everyday residential use, offering solid quality and comfort at an accessible price point:

  • soft, pleasant hand feel,
  • stable, compact construction — polyester has low susceptibility to creasing and deformation, so the upholstery stays smooth longer and does not “sag” with use,
  • high abrasion resistance (40,000 Martindale) and strong resistance to mechanical damage — suitable for frequent sitting and everyday movement without the risk of wear,
  • performs well on furniture forms thanks to its thickness and weave structure,
  • excellent lightfastness (highest rating: 5).

Care – how to maintain its plush effect over time

Chenille is relatively easy to care for. Synthetic fibers limit stain absorption, dry faster, and respond better to gentle cleaning agents than natural fabrics. To maintain the look and softness of chenille:

  • vacuum regularly using a soft brush attachment, without strong pressure,
  • avoid intensive rubbing — especially when wet,
  •  for spot cleaning, use a minimal amount of water and mild cleaning agents,
  • after cleaning, allow the fabric to dry naturally, away from heat sources.

HAGA is a fabric that stands out for its tactile quality and visually warms the interiors it inhabits. It works particularly well in “cozymaxxing” home arrangements — spaces intentionally designed to build a welcoming atmosphere through textures and materials that emphasize comfort and practicality.
